Visit an historic canal house with a rich interiorExperience what it was like to live in a high-class Amsterdam canal house! There is a 17th century double canal house at number 605 on the Herengracht: the Willet-Holthuysen Museum. In 1895 Mrs. Willet left her opulent house to the city of Amsterdam, including the impressive art collection of her deceased husband Abraham, that consists of antique furniture, silver, ceramics, sculptures, paintings and photographs.
On the first floor, the impressive ballroom in Louis XVI style, the dining room, the salons of the lord and lady of the house, the garden and the gallery give the visitor an impression of how the wealthy Willets lived, while the kitchen and pantry in the basement give an idea of the daily lives of the servants. The house has a beautiful town garden. This green oasis in the heart of Amsterdam was laid out in 18th-century French style and is filled with historic trees and plants.
